Exhibition Label Text: The provision of stretchers at mines first became law in the Mines Regulation Act, 1887.
The Neil-Robertson stretcher was used to transport injured men over rough ground and up steep inclines. The casualty was strapped into a wrap round sleeve of canvas and bamboo slats and carried by four rope handles. Ropes could be attached top and bottom to guide the stretcher up vertical shafts.
