Marline Spike 20th Century. A rope splicer used a spike to open
up the gap between two strands of a wire rope in order to
insert other splicing tools.

03/11/98 Several unnumbered rope splicing tools found on display in the Old Power House, but from the descriptions given on the computer database there was no way of identifying which was which so numbers with no current location were assigned to the most likely items.
