Exhibition Label Text: Quoit. 20th Century. A popular game in mining communities, which
dates back to the Pentathlon of ancient Greece. Each quoit ring weighs between
5 and 14 pounds.(2 and 6 kilogrammes.) They are thrown at a target or ‘mark’ about 20 metres
away. A ‘lighterman’ awards points after measuring which quoit is closest to the mark
using callipers.
