Exhibition Label Text: The Mark 1V was introduced in 1938 as a result of modifications to the original design.
It became the most commonly used breathing apparatus in Scotland.
The apparatus worked by purfying breathed-out air. topping it up with fresh oxygen from
the canisters and then re-using it. The system provided good air for 2 hours of rescue work.
